The year was full of difficulties, joy, and sadness. Attended high school graduations for staff members Angelita and Jose. Covid – 19 hits with severity from March through the end of the year – causing panic and multiple deaths. Clinic had to be shut down until the 23rd of June. Flights to Manta were cancelled until November. Nationwide mask mandate required wearing the mask once one leaves their home. Fundraisers were sparce. Reality of life hit at the end of the year with the deaths of our beloved nurse Angelita and Pastor Gruezo.
2021
A quick trip in January brought us back to the country we love having severe outbreaks of the Covid with few vaccines. Mask mandates and distance restrictions continued throughout the year. Easter services had to be cancelled. Large influxes of Venezuelan refugees. Facility and staff improvements continued along with celebrations – custodian Fabricio graduating from law school. Miracle heart girl Juliana graduating from high school.
Truck purchased to help with water deliveries; Dr. Gahm returned to provide support; building repairs made to clinic roof and large storage building; wheelchair program began; 10 year staff anniversary celebrated; grandson passisted the mission; sponsoring of individuals education programs began.
2022
Visa's expired early February. Mask mandates also in effect while flying along with Covid tests required for entry. Celebrated a delayed staff Christmas party and Juliana's wedding - our dear heart miracle girl. Indigenous riot over gas prices and cost of living. Chris Lang's scouting mission for a music mission in June 2023. A dear friend, Joffre, passed away short of his 44th birthday.
2023
Venezuelans invited to Pastor Gabriel's church. Richard and Elizabeth honored for 25 years of service to Ecuador and more specifically to the Floron community. Celebrated a delayed staff Christmas party. Celebrated the "season of love". New destination for donated baby quilts. Celebrated friends grand opening of La Prosperina coffee. Prayer time reminder. Successful Music Mission with concerts in June.
