August 2021: We can never give enough thanks for your support

August 18, 2021

Dear Friends in Christ,

As the events of the world and especially our own country become increasingly grievous, I’ve had to examine my internal frustration . . . frustration with situations I cannot control. But in all reality, I never could. As I paged through my Bible I came to highlighted verses like:

-“Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last.” – Revelation 1:17b.

-“You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created.” Revelation 4:11.

-“For He Himself is our peace, . . . “Ephesians 2:14a.

-“The way of peace they have not known, And there is no justice in their ways. They have made themselves crooked paths; Whoever takes that way shall not know peace.” Isaiah 59:8.

And this verse seemed to be a balm for my frustrated heart, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27

Hopefully this is a reminder of our firm foundation in Jesus Christ. . . even as days seem to spiral downward. . . each day propels us closer to His return.

Richard and I will return to Ecuador on Saturday for about three weeks. At our board meeting last Friday, I realized that I have not shared everything happening at the clinic over the past two years. (Think I’ve been preoccupied elsewhere.) So, long overdue I share medical specialists that now come once a week to the clinic. This is entirely from Dra. Silvia’s initiative and a major accomplishment for these professionals to enter the Floron Community. Twenty-three years ago when I first started in this area no one would enter without a body guard. (REALLY!) We give God the glory for His increased presence and surveillance that these medical professionals feel comfortable entering the El Floron Community and practicing at Buen Samaritano Clinic. Wow, just WOW!

Dra. Dionisia Sanchez – cardiologist

Dr. Fabricio Moreira – gynecologist

Dra. Linda Veliz – pulmonologist

Dr. Jandry Moreira – traumatologist

Dr. Mauro Zambrano – phlebologist

Dra. Cindy Toala – pediatrician

Friends, we can never give enough thanks for all the ways you have supported us/Buen Samaritano Clinic & Water; hopefully our updates give you a glimpse of God’s blessings over almost 24 years.

Our prayer requests follow:

*Thanksgiving to God for the financial support both from individuals and also the “Christmas in July” sponsored by Broadmoor Community Church. (This included singing Christmas Carols and a Sunday sermon on celebrating the birth of Jesus 365 days.)

Left: Cindy Reagan, Diane Wonhof, Elizabeth Engjker

Center: Isabela (Izzy) and Amy Intriago

Right: Cliff and Owen Intriago

Just as in the USA, Ecuadorian government requirements never cease. Below Dra. Silvia gives occupational safety training to the staff. Yes, Covid hazmat garments and masks are still required.

The last time Richard was down he inspected the jungle gym (built in 2006) that so many of the patient’s children used. Others would sometimes also drop in from off the street to play. He decided that the termite problem had finally made it unsafe for continual use. Tear down or spend the money for a new one. All the original hardware was still useful so only the wood had to be purchased plus pay a pastor and his son to build it. Now to stain and seal before the rainy season.

Friends, we can never give enough thanks for all the ways you have supported us/Buen Samaritano Clinic & Water; hopefully our updates give you a glimpse of God’s blessings over almost 24 years.

Our prayer requests continue:

*Thanksgiving for the first Covid immunizations arriving for our staff; and His protection over the past year+ of our staff’s health. But please pray for Michael – one of the young water technicians – he has painfully passed two kidney stones.

*Prayers for the second Covid immunization to soon be available; supplies are currently exhausted.

*Travel mercies for Richard and I; we are taking excessive luggage/supplies.

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

Dios los bendiga, nosotros amigos en Cristo,

Elizabeth, Richard and FYTA Board
